Shader,
I have a set up identical to yours and also a second DS125 and INON macro as the wife like macro stuff. I tlked to Oly regarding the WB feature. Even though not specifically stated in the brochures, the C7070 has "One-Touch White Balance". This feature is very important and I wasn't going to upgrade unless it had it! I'm interested in seeing if the C7070 will focus any better in lowlight conditions. The modeling lights in the DS125s help, but the best focus is achieved when I aim my HID light at the subject for her! We have used continuous focus but that will kill the battery in about 40 minutes! I also noticed that the 7070 only has 4 MyModes. My wife has all 8 loaded in the 5060 because she doesn't like to mess with adjustments.

A review I read said that the fastest shutter sync speed with external flash is 1/200, but I have set the 5060 higher in an attempt to knock out all ambient and have only strob illumination. The C7070 stops down to f11 but I don't know how that compares since the CCD is different between the two cameras.

Do you shoot in RAW mode?
regards,
Dan

Shader:
I too am curious about this new model. It appears to be pretty much the same as the C5060 but with a higher resolution CCD. It even fits in the same Ikelite housing as the C5060 with very minor modification(woohoo)! I did notice it seemed to have a slightly different TTL White Balance and higher aperature(F11), otherwise it looks like it's pretty much the same camera.

miesemer:
My wife just purchased the 7070 with Ikelite housing and DS-125 strobe. It will be a few weeks until she gets a chance to use it Turks & Caicos. She'll probably give it a couple tryouts in the pool/quarry before we go.

Before making a suggestion on the Ikelite housing I'd ask if you have any future plans of scuba or what depths you plan on freediving with it. Also if you had plans of adding a strobe and considered taking advantage of the Ikelite TTL.

Hihi, just a curious question. Can ur wife get the 7070 to fire off its strobe in supermacro mode?

Thanks

I'm not overl familiar with her 7070 but I couldn't get it to fire the internal flash in any of the modes while in super macro. I could however turn the flash on as Slave and it would allow me to activate the flash in M and A modes. I didn't have DS-125 attached but I'm guessing it would have fired. I could not get the internal flash to fire at all in super macro mode.

Hopefully I have more info after we return from a week of use in T&C.

Just read this, hope it isn't true, but if so, Olympus really banged up bad!

Essentially, he's saying that the 7070 is not focusing well in lowlight conditions.

Can anyone here attest or counter what he's saying?

Like all PNS, the low light focus could be better, but i think it has improved over the 5060wz. In low light, i had to point at an area of greater contrast to get focus, but that is normal for PNS. No issues with it.

Tim,
Can you verify the one-touch white balance function? The 7070 manuals are not yet posted on the oly site.
thx

Yes, there is a one-touch white balance, but u will still need to get into the white balance menu to do it...

Well, the 5050 was rated as having very good low light focus ability....Any 7070 users out that care to make a comment about the difference between the 2 cameras?

IT seems that reading more & more of these posts, that Olympus just did the right things on the 5050. ONe of those wonder models I suppose....so latest is not always the greatest! I remember that happening w/ the Apple Macs too - the ol SE30 was just a workhorse for some reason...just kept going & going & going...!!
