Well, the 5050 was rated as having very good low light focus ability....Any 7070 users out that care to make a comment about the difference between the 2 cameras?

IT seems that reading more & more of these posts, that Olympus just did the right things on the 5050. ONe of those wonder models I suppose....so latest is not always the greatest! I remember that happening w/ the Apple Macs too - the ol SE30 was just a workhorse for some reason...just kept going & going & going...!!

You are probably right in that the 5060 and the 7070 were prob not as good in terms of low light focusing compared with the 5050. I think the picture quality is also better with the 5050 (according to some other users in the Oly forum.. go ask Gilligan) but I guess if we need more pixels (to aid in cropping) and less shutter lag, the new models are probably better. Guess we can't always have our cake and eat it. In anycase, the 7070 shutter lag is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than my old Nikon 885 and 4300. So I am happy :D

Certainly there are things that can be improved w/ the 5050 that obviously have been improved on with the newer models...this should be the whole point of newer models, but (Hey Olympus!!!) why are some things getting worse in the newer models too??

There seems to be a ton of reasons why users are sticking w/ the 5050. & i for 1 am always on the lookout for an upgrade camera to switch to in the prosumer range....& still waiting.....

Olympus did improve the 5050, they called it the C-8080! This is just a guess, but I think the improvement the 7070 brings in...is for Olympus' bottom line. I still do not know why they stepped back towards a 7mp when they already had a 8mp!

Unless the 8080 was a marketing mistake because it would take away real money from a high profit, multi lens E-volt which is also at 8mp.

I suspect the 8080 IS a mistake. With the Evolt available, it looks as if the 8080 will die a natural death. The 7070 is a upgraded 5050/5060 which fills the gap nicely between the Evolt and the lower end Oly range. From what I understand, they are terminating the 8080 (heard it from the shops here in HK, no verification from Oly).

I have been reading in other forums on how poor the low light focus of the 7070 is. To be honest, I have been taking pictures at night in low lit environments and have no issue with the low light focus. It seems to work, and better than my old set-up. Any users have any problem with low light focus with the 7070?
