My Halcyon Infinity came with noticably softer webbing on the crotch strap than the main harness. Sounds like the OP doesn't have this. Perhaps you could just replace yours with a Halcyon crotch strap?

It's actually pretty easy to make a crotch strap. (I am no seamstress, and I did it.) Don't buy stainless steel fittings at an outdoors outfitter, though. Mine have all rusted.

I picked up basically 2" seat belt webbing -- much softer than the resin-impregnated nylon of the upper part of the harness. Very comfortable, and easy to do. You need two triglides, two D-rigs, and a sewing machine.

What's a sewing machine?? ;-)

Uhm I think I know someone with a sewing machine, I'll have to check. Good idea though - out of curiosity where did you get the seat belt webbing? Was it from a wreckers ?

For those who have asked, I currently have the DiveRite strap. They call it soft, it aint. It's the same as the harness material.

I complained about this many times. DR crotch strap webbing is STIFF, one of the most stiff webbing have came across. To make it worse, it is very thin too. Even with neoprene sleeve on it, still not comfortable with thin suit, not to mention boardies. DR's harness, however, is the softest. One web, D-ring with tri-glide won't stay in place. I really wonder their reason behind the webbing choices.

Thanks again!

Glad to hear that someone agrees with me and I'm not being paranoid it :-)

I really like Deep Sea Supply's harness kit and if ya called him I'd bet you could even have just a crotch-strap on your way tomorrow;) .......I use the 2" for all my diving, it's fine.

Hi TSandM,

Just reviving a really old thread. I actually ended up ordering webbing froma different supplier (I can't remember why) and it was a disaster - far too soft. Won't hold a triglide, won't hold it's shape at all around the elastic bands, and the can-light is a complete disaster.

Have you actually used the Seattle Fabrics stuff you linked to? Is it firm enough to hold it's shape?

Cheers
