For my warm water travel wing setup, i tried to keep it as practical as possible while still remaining GUE approved. I opted to go the 1" crotch strap, as most of the time I expect to be using it wearing boardies rather than a wetsuit. I was rather suprised that the Diverite 1" crotch strap has a plastic quick-release, where the top part needs to be threaded onto the waist strap before the buckle is threaded.
So.. i'm looking for a 1" crotch strap that is a single piece, and has the D-ring's sewed in. Or am I being a wuss and should I just get the 2" strap? The one I use on my normal setup is quite stiff, and I wouldn't want to use it in boardies - are there soft ones out there? Anyone reccomend any brands without me having to replace the entire harness to buy it?

Second - cam bands. Is there anything wrong with going to a plastic cam buckle to save more weight? I understand there's the breakage factor, but this is for open water diving, and what's the chance of breaking both at once?

My singles rig is a DSS rig with the plastic cam buckles. Are they a little less secure than metal? Maybe but I'm not really concerned and like you said, the chance of two failing at once is remote. As to the crotch strap, I've found as long as its soft enough I don't notice it underwater. Although I've only worn it with just board shorts a few times as I prefer to wear my old ratty 3mm for protection and the pockets on it.

I just dove my Halcyon single in Cancun with the 2" crotch strap and board shorts without noticing any discomfort; even while waiting 15 min on the surface for the boat to come get us!

A properly adjusted two inch strap should not cause discomfort. I have a few backplates and even the stiff webbing ones do not bother me in boardshorts.

OK.. seems like I am trying to solve a problem that does not exist. The 2" strap I have is very noticeable in a 5mm wetsuit.. i just figured it would be a right pain in boardies.

Are you sure you have the soft 2" belt which feels smooth and not the stiff resin impregnated harness for your crotch strap? :blinking:

If the 2" is soft, use it. If not make your own 1" with webbing, D rings and tri-glides. Possibly a camping/hiking store that does repair will sew it for you, or a shoe repair place or just use tri-glides on both ends. I agree the possibility of 2 cam bands breaking....slim and none and none is out of town.
