A gift From me to me :D

Thanks to Joey from Scuba Toys who made me a hell of a deal.
He got me everything I asked for even thought it was not listed on his web site.
I was actually looking to buy used gears ,but for less then a $100 more I got everything new and It's exactly what I wanted.:14: Scuba Toys as a new Customer now.

This is my first BP/W these harness are a bit tricky to get fit right. I now regret my choice of the chest strap because getting both side to align is a big contract. But once I got set right Ill like it, since I do lots of shore dives and always have to walk for a while with my gear on,before I get in the water.

I also have a concern with the STA. That thing fit very thight inside the wing is that normal ? I'm gonna have to Mod the STA to have the tank sit a bit lower. I also notice that when using the STA I lose some trim ajustement.

I think I can use the wing without the STA but I need special Screw, Could somebody tell me what I need to get. Upper one is a regular round hole ,lower one is a slot.

Here some pics
Btw it's a OMS setup with a OXycheq Mach V #30
Why OMS put some many D ring on there harness ? I had to remove a few cause I got no use for them. Well on the other side I can now built another Rig with my Spare parts ;)

My suggestions...

Dump the harness...sorry, but its just a PITA. Make yourself a simple one-piece hog harness. You will be able to use the hardware that you already have... so it won't cost much to get 15 feet or so of weight belt webbing.

Slide the STA on your cylinder. Position it where you want it. Lock down your cambands. Lay the thing down STA up. Put your wing into position and then your plate. Tighten down the wingnuts. (Use the flat and lock washers that came with your STA.) When you swap out cylinders after a dive just unlock the cambands, slide the whole thing off and then slide the whole thing onto your fresh tank. When your done diving disassemble everything and pack it up.

Set the height of your cylinder so that you can reach your valve when in a horizontal trim. My top camband is usually a couple of inches below the tank crown... and that's with using the STA with the cambands in the slots like normal. You shouldn't have to modify your STA... not yet, anyways.

There are several ways to dial in your trim... tank height is only one and it's for
fine adjustment only... it plays only a small part. Basically... don't worry about it for now. Just try to position that top camband in about the same place relative to the crown each time you set your cylinder. It doesn't have to be perfect... just close.

Stick with this set up for a while and get in some dives... you will get used to it. If you just gotta go STA-less... then you can get some SS sex bolts at a local hardware store. If you just gotta modify your STA then talk to Floater or Nemrod... but chances are you won't need to do anything special... very few of us do.

Thanks for your help Stephen Ash
I was thinking I should get a one pieces harness too. As for the weight Belt webbing what do I do for the Bolt hole ? There a SS ring in there. should I just drill or burn a hole ?
There must be a way to order only that pieces of webbing without all D ring and Clip

If I got you right I should dissable my wing from BP and STA everytime I'm done diving and store them separatly ? what the best way to store the Wing ? Alone in a plastic storage box with little air in it ?

Thanks for the Trim Tips , I was more worry about the tank hitting my head since the STA slots are higher then the Oxcheck STA less slot. but liek you said I must dive a couple time first

I'm not a fan of bolting the wing to the backplate but since you asked, here are some sex bolts. You can get them at any hardware store. You can also get ones that aren't shouldered... ie flat.

Backplate screw

You can get regular old weight belt webbing from your LDS or you can find it on line. I get mine in rolls from Reef Scuba but you can order it by the foot in several colors. Here's a link...
Nylon Webbing, Braided Nylon Line and Parachute Line

I use a bolt of appropriate diameter and heat it with a torch and burn a whole. It's actually better to not use a metal grommet. I have a pic somewhere...

I disassemble everything and after I rinse the wing I hang it for a while with some air in it. After it has completely dried, you can do what ever you want with it... hang it up with some air in it or toss it in a storage container... doesn't really matter. Some of my buddies could care less and never disassemble anything. Their wings seem to hold up just fine. It just depends on how compulsive you are about your gear... or how much you use it!

Take your webbing, fold it in half, make a mark. Web it up through the top slots of your BP. Align the mark over the hole in the channel of your plate. Burn your hole. Finish webbing your harness.

Agree with the sentiment - making a harness out of webbing is easy and straightforward, and you can buy the webbing from any LDS. Personally, I put a grommet in for the upper hole after I burn it, but that is not necessary. One comment on this OMS harness. It can be a PITA because of the placement of the release buckles, and their effect on positioning the D-rings. But, I dive this harness with my drysuit (only) and doubles, and like the releases. Yes, it is a point of failure but it sure is easy to get out of at the end. After a dive, put some air in your wing (if salt water, put some fresh water in the bladder first to rinse the inside) and let it sit for a while, to allow any water inside accumulate at a dump, and purge it. You can easily store it in a container

I don't use a grommet because it doesn't add anything but unnecessary thickness where you don't want it.
