As some of you may have read, Arctic Diver, from Alaska is coming down here to our little corner of paradise on business with his wife next week and is looking to dive. He has a couple of shore dives set up already. He and I are getting together on the 17th for a day-o-diving.
I've arranged a charter with Matt Fahey of Coastal Diving in Hingham. We're leaving Hingham at 9 and headed to Halfway Rock. We had talked about doing the Pinthis but after talking with Matt (and based on an earlier dive there this season) opted to aim for HWR for dive #1, a spot Matt knows for scallops for #2, and perhaps a third dive on the way back to Hingham. I have asked a couple of friends if they are interested and have one tentative yes so far.
So, I'm throwing it out to the board. We have a trip scheduled and open spots on a really cool site. For those who haven't ever been, HWR (so called because it is 'Half-Way' between Boston and Rockport,) is off of Beverly harbor. It is a fairly large rock pinacle that rises up from about 100 feet. It is out in the open ocean and so the vis is usually really good. The last time I was there I went to the ocean (deeper) side and had a great dive, but no bugs. The guys who went to the inside (shallower) cleaned up. One dude got around 10. On the seaward side there are steep walls, deep crevasses/canyons, etc. Jack dropped to the bottom and says he saw a bunch of scallops there but didn't take any. (Either that or he shucked and ate them underwater.)
Matt's boat, FloundaPounda, can take six. PM me if you are interested. The more the merrier.
