I purchased a new Kraken 1800 wsr for a spotting light for my camera, through Bluewater photo. First dive, it was working well, for about 40 minutes, then shut off. Found out after the dive it had flooded. I distinctly remember tightening the light down ahead of the dive, until it stopped turning, and it tested fine.

Fast forward to discussions with Matt at Kraken, assuming that it was a defective product. Instead, it seems that it was somehow my fault, as the battery compartment and the light head had both flooded. In his opinion, the water came from a poorly sealed battery compartment rather than a failed o ring on the light head. I have six other lights of similar construction (not Kraken) and have never had an issue over hundreds of dives. Anyway, he is not budging, and I’m out $189. He did offer to let me buy one at wholesale price, which is better than nothing, but it still is frustrating.

Instead, anyone have a suggestion for a spotting light that shuts off upon strobe activation?

Why do you care if the spotting light turns off? The strobe light is at least 3 and maybe 4 orders of magnitude more light (albeit with a short duration). I have used all kinds of focus lights and have never seen the light show up in a photo.
