Question YS-D1 repeatedly flashing

My old SEA&SEA YS-D1 began repeatedly flashing while on a dive. I use fiber-optic cables, in manual.
After surfacing, the battery cap was somewhat corroded, but no flood of water poured out of the battery compartment.
I replaced the batteries, and the battery cap with a spare, and the light keeps flashing.
Is it toast? Is it an affordable repair?

Sounds like it's shorting out somewhere in the circuit

Some additional info: when it is turned o, it takes a few minutes before is flashes by itself, then begins flashing with shorter and shorter intervals until it is as continuous as the pwer-setting allows. At very low power the flashing is continuous. Something is warming up up, I think, then shorting out.

Not sure what your definition of affordable is in this context, but my experience with Sea&Sea repair quotes (for a YS01-solis), is that it is cheaper than a new flash but more expensive than a used replacement.

Response from service dept for Sea&Sea (Backscatter):

"If you wanted to send the strobe in to our service department for an evaluation, we’d be happy to take a look at it. There is no cost for the evaluation and if it was found that it was unrepairable or the costs to repair were higher than you would like, the strobe can be recycled here at no cost to you or shipped back at the cost of return shipping.​

From your description of the issues, if the strobe is firing erratically when it normally should not be, this is typically a sign of some level of moisture damage to the critical internal electronic components beyond just the battery contacts. We will have to evaluate the strobe physically at the shop before being able to make a determination one way or another, but if there were damage to the main internal circuitry electronics, the cost to repair that would be as much if not more than the cost to purchase a new YS-D3 model strobe. If it was found that the only damage is localized to the battery compartment and contacts and cap, the cost to repair that would be ~$220."​

Anybody want a old YS-D1 to play with? I'll not be sending it in for repair.
