I just purchased a Halcyon weighted single tank adapter and while sizing it to fit my PST E8-130, I noticed it digs into the finish of the cylinder when you slide the tank into and out of the cambands. Except for putting some mesh netting over the tank, is there anyway to prevent the STA from gradually tearing into the tank's finish? Thanks.

Halcyon seems to not think too much about doing it right when it comes to single tanks and their horrible cam bands.

Gotta love those failsafe steel fasteners that score the hell out of steel tanks and cam bands that loosen noticably regardless of how much you presoak and crank them down.

All I can figure is it they spend too much time down south diving doubles to appreciate just how bad their design is for single steels.

Although I hate tank nets I am kind of stuck with them as long as halcyon keeps putting out crap like this. Tsk tsk.

No problem:

First.. the tank galvanizing is self-healing to a degree... if there is a scratch the zinc will flow and replate that area.

Second.. you can file the edges of the STA smooth so that they will not cut into the galvanizing.

Third.. this is what duct tape is for. Run some on each edge of the STA and no more tank scratching. If you are having a problem with tank slippage then you might want to use friction tape instead of duct tape.

As for tightness of cam bands using a single tank... I don't seem to have your problem... but then I'm probably a lot stronger. I don't pre-soak the cam bands and they seem to hold a single lp104 just fine... even without an STA.

Pardon me if I'm telling something you already know.
I'm going to be purchasing an Eclipse this spring, so I don't about peculiarities associated with Halcyon BC's yet, but my SeaQuest had a single strap, and was prone to slippage with a single HP100 Steel (Genisis w/ gloss finish).
I don't bother soaking the bands. Instead I feed the band thru the first loop of cam lock. Next I hold the tank & BC between my knees with one hand grabing the band as it exist the cam.
Next I twist my wrist and while rocking the cam lock back and forth, with a little snap on the lock works well (the delayed memory of the band works to your advantage here).
Leaning on the cam lock crates enough friction to allow me to change my grip and continue sinching more slack out of the band. Using this method, I was able to eliminate all slippage.
All Halcyon's have two straps don't they?

I'm hardly a slight little thing myself U.P.

Regardless I'll put it down to it being a new rig.

Perhaps the straps will stretch out and relax a bit with some use in Mexico. Ony dove it 4 times now.

With regards to the tank galvanizing. You seriously don't find the cam buckles rough on them?

Yes... Halcyon wings use two straps... and they really don't need to be super tight to work on a galvanized tank. I don't have any experience with painted tanks.

I hate to admit this, but I did a whole dive once with without having closed my tank bands. I was using a Halcyon BC and a painted AL80. My trim was crap, but I didn't recognize the problem until afterwards. My tank was loose but amazingly still more or less in place even after gearing up, getting in the water, diving, leaving the water and taking off my gear. Those octo-grip straps are like superglue! I am having a very hard time picturing a tank "slipping" just because the bands got a little soggy.
