PerroneFord:
If his drysuit floods, is that 30 going to provide enough lift?
In his case, most likely. The ND Divemaster has a lot of inherent buoyancy ... (nice suit, though).

I was working on my response when he was posting that his suit was crushed Neoprene. I was thinking in terms of a shell suit.

Thanks.

Ditchable wt. is not really an option with a Halcyon BPW, The belt
goes on first, then the BPW, and the crotch strap pretty much cancells any
chance of dumping wt. easily.

hmmm.... well... it becomes a two-step process, but it's pretty easy to do

I hope so - I'm off to do a PADI Discover Tech this weekend just to get the feel of diving with a wing (and doubles and DIR reg. setup). If it all feels good I'll be emptying my bank account next week. :eek_2:

Great, let us know how you like it. FWIW - I dive doubles with the Evolve and love it.

On the other hand, maybe there's a DUI trilaminate in my future...

Are there any clear advantages to the 30lbs model? Is is that much more streamlined in the water? Or is it maybe worth getting the 40lbs version "just in case", if it doesn't make much difference?

El Orans:
That's why you carry a liftbag. Redundant buoyancy.
No. Thats why you wear the right kind of undergarments.

Hey,, 10 lbs is 10 lbs..Might as well. The difference in wing size is minimal, and you won't notice it at all. The Halcyon wing is extremely close to the wearer, and for all intents and purposes, poses no drag that can be noticed.

I noticed you posted a thread in the DIR section. If you are considering going that route then 30lbs should be enough because if you need more than that for a single rig then you don't have a balanced rig and are an accident waiting to happen according to JJ.

This is a little harsh isn't it? I would'nt call him an accident waiting to happen because he chooses an extra 10 lbs of lift. So jj is saying that "conventional wisdom" as he sees it, dictates only the minimum lift in any rig? interesting....... I use the 30 lb wing on a single, and find it adequit for my needs, 7 mm wet, CLX 450, steel 119's.
IF,, however, I used a 40 lb wing, I would take exception to being called an accident waiting to happen. Hence the arrows being slung at DIR......

Erm, that would rather beg the question of why he feels the need to manufacture a 40lbs single rig model.
