I just bought a BP & harness from my LDS and I am having a hard time getting it all adjusted correctly. I have a 70# explorer wing for doubles. It seems the inflator hose on the wing is way too short for me and it ends up resting on top of my shoulder! If I pull on it I can get it up by my left ear but it certainly isn't what I would describe as convenient. I plan on going back to the LDS to ask them about it but they are closed on wednesdays so I figured I would ask the resident experts at scuba board.....thanks!

It's supposed to be short... it should just rest just near the top of your left D Ring, around your collarbone. Have you got it tangled up in the hoses or something?
I don't even have any hoses on it yet. I tried it on with just the bladder on the backplate, no tanks. I have the straps adjusted good and the bp isn't hanging too low. Do they make different lengths of inflator hoses? I am 6"3" and 220 lbs so I don't know if they just make these things for medium sized people or something.

LOL - and I'm 6'4" and 225, so I'd say, no to the medium people comment. Try it when everything is hooked up, and if you're still convinced you've got a mutant hose, take a picture for us or something.

I have two one on my duals is 13.5" and the one on my Pioneer is 14.5". That is lenght overall.
If it is in this range or a bit longer it should work. I would not wish one any shorter than the 13.5 one.
You may have fun finding a hose just the right lenght. 22 inch tends to be a standard size but is a bit long depending on your reg hose routing.

Aloha Brian!
Before you return the hose, ask your LDS if you can test dive the wing in a/their pool. Once you are in the water with your wing I think you will see that the hose length is fine.
Also, if you need a shorter power inflator hose ( I am refering to the hose that attaches to the first stage and has the quick disconnect) just special order it from your LDS. I was shocked at how inexpensive a custom hose costs. For that matter, if your LDS carries Halcyon gear then chances are they stock the shorter inflator hose too.

Brian,

I was of the same opinion as you untill I dived my Oxycheq, that also come with a "short" hose. After 2 dives I was converted and now won't go back to have a long hose flapping all over the place and getting tangled everywhere.

JMHO... but give it a try before you discard it.

There could be literally dozens of things going on here which will make it difficult to debug over the internet. I suggest you contact these folks and ask who might be able to get together with you for some help (it looks like "Discovery Bay" is in the Bay area):

And in the meantime check out their equipment page:

Paying close attention to the picture that shows how high the backplate should be (1st picture, 2nd row, with the person reaching back over their shoulder and more-than-just-touching the top of the backplate).

Ok well after 15 dives on it last week I am convinced the hose is the perfect length!! Thanks to all who responded, I really was paniced when I first tried it on but felt reassured that it would probably be a lot more comfortable in the water, which it was.

awesome Brian!
