I should mention I did end up selling them all...maybe it was the missing pins.
No, in fact I don't know why it's considered a service item. There are other SP second stages that also have this pin. Often you can unseat it by CAREFULLY pushing the pin from the inside with an allen wrench or brass pick-then pull it out with your fingers.
emphasis on "very carefully"....
