The original poster may not be a troll, but they also have not responded with any more info about the supposed descent line or dive site.Just food for thought

It's been 18 hours. Some members, especially new members, don't stay logged on and refresh every few minutes like some of us do. :D

But after the rude posts, I'd be surprised for the lady to every post again.

Our usual approach in the New Divers forum is to help people - even if some part of their story may sound like an incorrect description, unwise, etc.

My last troll post on this topic: It just seems somewhat surprising how on-guard folks here are about trolls. In my short time on these forums, I've found that SB tends to be a lot more mature than your typical internet forum, and hasn't seen prone to flame wars or out-of-hand postings. If the OP were a troll, I imagine the situation/decisions made in the story would have been a lot more controversial. Oh well :P

Yeah... there were a lot of rude responses. I wouldn't be surprised if the OP didn't come back either.

Hello again all....

Let me clarify a few things.... There is no reason to call "BS" on me. Jeez. I wasn't BLAMING PADI for all my problems... it's just that I did not feel prepared and it would have been nice to hear a little bit of EXPLANATION from the DM about the difference between drift diving and diving with no current. All in all, I think PADI is a good organization... but when you get out in the real world, many of the DMs and instructors don't really bother to ask how much experience you've had before taking you on a dive. How the HE$$ is the novice diver supposed to know the right questions to ask about a dive? Most of the time they just say, "Oh, it's beautiful, you'll love it." If I tell him I've only been on 12 dives in Belize, should he not at least ask if I'm comfortable with currents? If I have trouble clearing, should he not forwarn me that the group is not going to wait? (And I did tell him this in advance)

Regarding the anchor line, this dive was over 3 years ago. After I posted it, I thought to myself, "I actually don't think there was an anchor line. It was Belize where I was able to descend on the anchor line." Oops, my bad....I didn't think it would be made into a Federal Case. Otherwise, I would have immediately corrected my post. WHATEVER! That's not the point. The point is that I have trouble clearing my ears and I was told to just get down to the bottom as fast as possible as not to be swept away by the current. If the DM has bothered to look at my dive log or ASK me about my experience, maybe he would have told me the dive was too advanced for me and I needed a special drift dive course. I would have been FINE with that.

The point is that these PADI trained DMs I've dealt with treat drift dives as if they are "no big deal." They let anyone go, without explaining that it's going to be different than dives with no current. When I ask for some helpful advice from all of YOU, I get lots of "you stupid rookie" type comments. Everyone gets so defensive about PADI when I was not attacking PADI... I was merely trying to get advice on how to be better prepared in the future and that includes WHAT QUESTIONS to ASK the DM... since he/she obviously won't ask me (especially in a group setting.)

Thank you to all of you who gave constructive feedback. I think I will hire a private DM this time.

To the rest of you who were just ************s.... I hope I don't ever have to dive with you... although I have found many experienced divers to be very cocky. I guess that's true not only in the boat, but on this board.

Kelly, maybe I have a LIFE outside of diving. I don't need to be on this board every second of every day.

Thank you DandyDon. Yes... I understood this to be a HELPFUL place for new divers. I was a newbie to skiing once, now I'm an expert. I was a newbie to mountain biking once, now I teach my friends..... what comes around goes around.

Some of the troll comments may come from the fact that you did not fill in your profile. So you looked a bit suspicious especially when parts of your story did not match. Sometimes it is hard to give constructive advice if we don't know where you are from.

Also I hope I do not have to dive with you either. You seem to put the blame on everyone but yourself. You should be the one asking questions about the site and explaining any special needs you have. You need to be the one responsible for yourself. If you do not feel comfortable with the dive then don't.

Here’s my issue. I don’t feel like PADI properly trains you for handling currents, and this seemed to be a recurring problem for me on my last dive trip.

Let your post speaks for itself. You shoot your mouth off at an organization that many people on this board respect, and you expect us to treat you kindly?? I think not. Then you claimed that you are not BLAMING padi for all your problem, but I counted multiple times you named either PADI or PADI trained DM as the culprit for your problems. I find that DM in mexico in general value the dollar signs more than diver's safety... irregardless of the certifying org they represented.

Many DM and instructors in cozumel, and likely your dive trip, are cross certified in SSI, PADI, and NAUI. It is their bread and butter - completing OW for multiple certifying organization. To paint them all as PADI, just because you had an attitude toward PADI implies that you are nothing more than a troll. I have never seen a DM brandishing the PADI brand when he or she greeted you on the dive boat.

And you have reinforced my opinion of you - a good for nothing troll.
