Has anyone been there recently? What is the condition of the resort? How is that dive operation?

I'd like to know as well. It was a toss up this past August whether we were going here or to Turneffe Lodge. Turneffe Lodge won and we may do Habitat next August.

There's a recent trip report with some pictures posted on the Scuba Diving D2D forum, here's a link: Habitat Curacao Trip Report

We're headed to Curacao, in January, staying/diving with Sunset Waters/Sunset Divers. Can't wait!

maui bound,
i have to agree with you and say that sunset provides a great opportunity for holiday.
did you have a chance to dive the house reef?
if so were you able to find the statue of the lady?
regards,

Not sure if last December counts as "recently." Resort was nicely put together, few problems -- minor -- with stuff in the room. However, misc other problems cast a bad pall on the trip, and I won't return.

In a nutshell, bad customer service, especially in the restaurant. This was compounded by bad attitude on the part of restaurant and resort staff when I tried to have problems resolved. Other problems resulted in significant overcharges (over $500) to me. Obviously, most guests don't have that kind of experience, or the resort would be out of business. Nonetheless, they won't get any more business from me.

After dozens of dive trips, Habitat Curacao is the only place I would definitely not return to.

Diving was fine, though, and the house reef is a great dive day or night. But not so good that I'll go back.

Aside from the breakfast buffet, it's best to just avoid the restaurant at Habitat, it will greatly improve your visit! Service and food usually lousy. It's too bad. Stock your fridge for some lunches, and get a car.

Didn't find the statue of the lady. Didn't even hear about that. Did find the two seahorses with some excellent direction from divemaster Kirk.

I was at Habitat the second week of October (our 3rd year in a row) I second the recommendation about avoiding the restaurant for anything other than breakfast or an occasional meal.

The resort was in fine shape. Clean. Well Kept.

Our first two years there the weather was mid 80's, light breeze, low humidity and calm seas.

However, this year when I was there we had some fairly strange weather for Curacao. (probably pre Wilma stuff) Lots of waves, severe storms at night, high humidity and a fairly strong current on a couple days. In fact the waves were so bad that on one evening that they ripped the stairs off the dock and on another evening the dock was damaged so bad that it was closed for a couple days for repair.

Even in the midst of this strange weather the boats were still going out regularly (once away from shore the seas were calm) and everyone I met was having a great time.
