I went out the last two days doing a few work dives. Since the work boat that we typically use was in the shop, we used charters for the first time to take us to the sites. The first two sites Thursday were out of Tarpon Springs with Narcosis Scuba. They ran a really nice boat with great service. The dives themselves were okay. What can I say? It was cold! First dive was 49 fsw and the bottom temp was 67 degrees. Second site was 48 fsw and the temp was also 67. The ledge that we surveyed was pretty cool though -- small corals, lots of different algae, some octocorals and several crabs, urchins, various fish: grouper, hogfish, amberjacks, gobies, blennies, wrasse. Visibility wasn't bad, between 20-30 feet.

Today we did one dive off of Indian Rocks. We went with Captain Ty Thomas. He's got a terrific set-up! I want to do all work and recreational dives off that boat. lol And he's a really nice guy, which makes it even better. The dive itself was in 37 fsw and it warmed up a degree...a big 68 degrees. Visibility was about 25-35 feet. Lots of algae, small corals, octocorals, urchins and sponges. There was a hogfish hanging out as well as a red grouper and some other small dwellers (gobies, blennies, wrasses). It was a decent dive...though I lost my pencil while trying to set up another transect line..boy, that sure doesn't help when I need to take my survey! :shakehead:

Did I mention that the seas were awesome?! Just about flat and overall perfect...every day should be like yesterday and today on the Gulf (but about 10 degrees warmer)! :D

Today was a beautiful day in/on the water. Calm seas, sunny, and just a great time. Visibility in 44 feet was about 25-30 feet and the temp was 70 degrees.

The typical critters were there: several small coral species, urchins, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs (one huge one too -- had a mansion of a shell -- lol), snails, various types of algae, grunts, wrasses, blennies, gobies, snappers, jacks, and one very curious red grouper that followed me around the entire time. Made for an amusing dive.

Thanks again to Capt. Ty for putting us right on the site!
