however, they are in the minority..i had someone i was diving with turn totally against DIR after sitting beside some DIR divers at a dive site one day, he'd been out of the water for a while, and never heard of DIR until he heard these guys, they were only talking among themselves, but that was enough..

my friend had a few hundred dives, and is a good diver...he couldn't believe the attitude of these guys...i have to admit they were the most extreme i've heard..

I've seen these types ... sitting on the seawall at my favorite dive site.

They're usually newly-minted DIR-F grads ... often with a provisional rating ... out to "prove" themselves worthy.

The good news is that it's usually a temporary condition, and passes after a few months time ... kind've like adolescence ... :eyebrow:

Cards are a direct measure of your worth as a diver. The more you have the better diver you are.
I know your kidding cornfed! because if your not " you scare me"

If someone doesn't have a fish identification c-card do you really think they know the difference between a flounder and an amberjack?

Sometimes I can't beleave what I read on these boards.

Is a C-card really that important? the skills are well defined on a number of web sites. and there is absolutely nothing stoping you from using the same skills that any agency uses. READ, LEARN, SWIM in that order. Or get a mentor that has the same goals and learn from them. It will save you alot of cash.

P.S if you feel the need to ask questions about a particular skill ask it on SB and I'm sure you'll have enough replies to answer your question.
Some are and some are not. If you wish to continue with GUE education, then this C card is very important.

Now are far as GUE vs TDI goes (after you get past fundi's)

GUE - Teaches knowledge and a specific system.
TDI - Grab bag results. Knowledge for sure, but anything else would be brought in by the teacher and I'm sure you could get everything from East-Coast Wreck diver "Strokeyness" to full blown DIR (Note the "Strokeyness is not meant to be a judgment call, just trying to describe a system that is totally opposite to DIR....Solo diving, 80%, Left Lean - right rich, etc etc)

GUE is more than just skills and because it is consistent between all the teachers it pretty much is "What you see is what you get". (Note 2: But this also means you need to buy into the system, otherwise you probably wont get what you want out of it)

TDI is much harder to put your finger on "What" it is because each teacher can be a bit different. Which also means the student has to do more research to be able to make a decision.

seems like you've made your mind up. Or did someone make it up for you?

YOU ARE GETTING SLEEPY, YOU NEED TO CLOSE YOUR EYES , WHEN I SNAP MY FINGERS YOU WILL BE A DIR-DIVER ...... snap....

good luck with all that. LOL

I think if you're waiting for Jeff to be caught with the Kool-Aid, you'll be waiting a long time :eyebrow:

DIR is not for everyone, but in the big scheme of things thats not a very big deal....except of course on any type of scuba discussion board. :D

So, I would like to think that I had something to do the decision. The first step was to buy into the buddy system (opposed to just given it lip service). I made that move waaaaayyyy before I even heard of DIR...the other parts just seemed to fit logically to me. (and as far as any type of tech diving techniques goes...I didn't have to un-learn anything.)

I did taste the Kool Aid, but it tasted suspiciously like Budweiser ;)
