GUEs should be approached with extreme caution and remember
NEVER ATTEMPT TO JOKE WITH THEM!
I took a GUE class and joke around too much for my own good (just ask anyone whose name starts with "regulator")..what's the matter, you didn't like the punch joke?

... however... after receiving so much value for $$ spent from instruction at 5thD I must say that (imo) Andrew and crew (including MHK) are definitely giving much more than they get.

I have met Andrew and I agree, he is a very nice, knowledgable person, and an excellent diver.

However, "giving much more than they get" is also a large part of business development for a startup company, or an established business.

Everything else notwithstanding, I think the "they are here to help you" is a little overdone.

UP,
I meant no critisism at all.
... that wasn't a concern at all... I was just using your post to get my personal experience with Andrew out.

BTW... since I don't have time to go to the other thread... let me just say that your posts in the PADI/weight thread were great!

Gotta go dive. Later.

What I'd like to know is...

Why does someone lose all credibility because they say one thing you don't like?

If you have a dispute with someone, do they become complete ****? Does it matter how well you know them? If it's a relative or friend?

Or, more pointedly, is it different if the person is sitting next to you or if they are a line of text in cyberspace? Hmmm.

For many hiding behind a monitor offers an opportunity to be heroic without revealing their true ability.

Your point about the lines between the for profit companies-EE, Halcyon etc. and the non-profit-GUE, being blurry is well taken. Perhaps GUE should take note. Perception is reality...

There is, of course, nothing wrong with a non-profit "making" money. It is called "surplus" of income over expense. However, as long as the surplus is used for Mission oriented activities, and the cause of the surplus is understood everything is ok. Non-profits who sock away large surpluses are not being true to their Mission. The reason they are tax-exempt is because they are supposed to use up ALL available resources in service to their Mission.

Wouldn't they then need to be a 'Not For Profit Organization', that would allow them to make money... correct?

So let me be clear to you.. If you have a question relating to DIR/GUE I'll answer it for you
Reagrds

I do have a direct question. We have seen lots of discussion concerning the DIRF classes; content, schedules, etc. I am curious as to why there is no, or very little anyway, discussion or threads about the GUE Tech classes?

My opinions, thoughts aside, I am curious why no one says, "hey, I took a Tech 1 class last week" or "whens the next Tech class". There appear to be a fairly good number of divers who have now taken, or want to take the DIRF. Are these folks moving on to the tech classes, happy where they are?
