CCR1 essentially is Fundies on CCR.
So duck dive kicking in formation for six hours at 3 metres then?

AffirmativeAside from hating anything with a battery (his can light is actually hand cranked throughout the dive), the T1-CCR1-CCR2 progression bypassing T2 is what gets him worked up.

Only having T1 for an OC background is marginal at best
So you have not taken a hypoxic or even a 2 deco bottle course at all?I think it can be fine. But it requires some honest self assessment. When I took CCR1, I had a few hundred OC cave/DPV/stage dives under my belt, 40 or so in the T1 range. CCR1 was a natural progression. Someone at 25 dives out of T1? No chance. Then again, you could get from tech pass to CCR in 50 dives before if you wanted to. I think as long as you aren't trying to go zero to hero, it offers a better process for learning to dive the unit in progressively more demanding environments. Especially if you look at cave CCR as a sort of primer for CCR2 and get a decent chunk of experience between classes.

The JJ with the backmounted 50s is pretty much the worst hobgoblin of a CCR for caves but that's another issue

Would you mind to elaborate on this? In a new thread if needed...
My T2 class was unfortunately cancelled and postponed to next year by Corona... but there seem to be plenty of CCR classes going around, and more cave divers that I know seem to be adopting the JJ. I’m not convinced yet, but as it gets harder and harder to take both the T2 class and do T2 dives .... I don’t refer to He but finding buddies.
anyways, what’s the issue with the JJ in caves?
Failed failed. One on day 1, another on day 3. I spoke to one of them about it and he said his instructor doesn't do provisionals... so bye bye course fee!Sorry, do you really mean they failed? Or do they just got a provisional?
No practical way to increase your onboard bailout supply as the unit is already very wide.
The absence of a backup reg is inconsistent with GUE open circuit configuration. The class is also taught optionally without a BOV which I think is absolutely insane.
