I meant to post this earlier. But I went on another great white adventures trip to Guadalupe island off San Diego. This was my fourth trip to see the big uns. The sharks just get better and better out there. I have logged 75 hours of Cage diving at Guadalupe Island and I have the Video to prove it...last trip one shark took the all time prize as bad ***. He Broke a tooth out as he "explored the cage with his face" when I slow the tape down you can see the tooth floating down. I have seen many of the same sharks over and over and I see new ones each time as well. Nightrider, Biteface, King Kong...you can get familiar with them and their personalities if you pay close attention. The next Guadalupe trip is November 12th if anyone is interested in seeing big great whites...You will see them at Guadalupe...Even the south Africans I met recently Said this trip "the best"...overall with warm water best visibility etc...this is the best great White Diviing in the world......I saw a breach on the last trip as well 13 footer launched himself 6 feet out of the water got fully horizontal and splashed down....incredible...Let me know if anyone else has seen a breach at Guadalupe...also if you wanna see a high def video from Guadalupe island let me know I have some to show...Hal Hollywoodivers.com

Thanks for the report. I've been kind of wanting to try this trip. Is there any particular time of year that's best for viz/sightings/whatever?

I think I have seen your video with the broken tooth somewhere. Did it make one of the TV shows? We where there a month ago and saw 3 sharks breech. I saw two of them. The 1st from below, a small female attacking the bait from below the cage. The other was a big male right alongside the boat, it dreanched the whole rear deck.

It was a great trip and something I will do again.

Oh, I want to go but I can't get away from work until after the end of the year. It'll be next fall before I can go.

But thanks for the information. Maybe next year.

Hal- Heard from Radinator about your footage. Sounds awesome. Mine would pale by comparison.

Hey Dr Bill...yes shark diving does have it's moments...That video is on High def tape I haven't edited it yet but hopefully you will see it. It is not representative of what normally happens but it is sensational. The Shark is a WILD animal and it will do what it wants at any given time. We cannot control Ma nature can we?

wow i would love to do one of those trips in the future!

High def, sigh. When I was down there last Dec filming alongside Guy Harvey, I was very impressed with the footage he shot with his PD150 vs what I got on my single chip TRV17. I can't imagine how great the high def footage looks (but do hope to see it). I may have to get a real job so I can afford such toys... er, tools!

I heard that two years ago a shark went right through one of the cages. Someone said Steve Benavides was in it, although I never confirmed that with him. When we were there in Dec., the sharks were fat and fairly docile. A few passed close to the cages, but nothing close to what you or Steve (apparently) experienced!

By the way, Hal. I recently posted a thread here about a few other charter fishing boats (Sport King and Patriot) anchored within the 300 ft no anchor zone outside the Casino Pt. dive park. I'm hoping to collect documentation and photos/video of these encroachments... it's the best evidence that marine protected areas work when you have some of their strongest opponents using the spillover from them to enhance their fishing! Interesting that with 54 miles of coastline to fish, they seem to focus on a few areas near official or de facto reserves!
