I love drift diving in Cozumel, and have heard that there is really good drift diving in the Grenadines off of a live aboard. Does anyone know about this? Is a live aboard worth the expense? When we go on vacation, we just want to dive, not really shop or anything like that. We are going to start graduate school soon, and so will be really tied up for a long time, and I want to go on another dive vaacation before we get tied down. any suggestions? No shore diving, my husband can't reallly handle that, somewhere in the Caribbean. Dove Cozumel 3 times lately, Jamaica, Calif, Sea of Cortez, been diving since 1977. Since we're going to grad school, can't really splurge

Hello, not sure if you went on your trip yet, but thought I'd share what I know. We sailed a bareboat charter down in the Grenadines. Picked up in St. Vincent and dropped off 10 days later at Union Island. Glenroy Adams and Grenadines Dive was who we hired for dives. He calls Union Island home, but comes from Bequia Island. The islands were fairly close and he would just come out to where we were, he' bring gear and we'd dive. Made it really easy!! Glenroy was FANTASTICALLY educated on the area and shared mass amounts of information before, during and after the dives.

Just saw your post, and i did a trip on Peter Hughes' Wind Dancer in September. Probably the best Caribbean diving I've done so far.
The liveaboard was realtively expensive, and only you can decide if it is worth it. I thought it was, and if you compare the price to a nice hotel, and include all the food and diving, the costs are relatively reasonable. Great food, and the crew did a great job. We typically did 4 dives a day. We only did 2 night dives because that is when the boat changes location.
This was only the second time I did a liveaboard, and have loved both trips. The real advantage is being able to dive a greater variety of sites than a land based op. OTOH, if you really liked a particular site, you may not get an opportunity to dive it a second time.

We did the Wind Dancer a few months ago and it was very good diving with a good variety in sites. It's actually on the slightly less expensive side for Peter Hughes and that class of liveaboard, and they offer even better deals sometimes. Pretty much all the dives were done as drifts, or at least one-way dives - any currents weren't very strong. We actually only did a couple dives off Grenada itself and I wasn't all that impressed, the vis was awful but may have just been conditions when we were there, was a lot of rain.

Thanks for the kind words about us, of course I will be happy to answer any questions regarding the vessel and the itinerary. Personally i love the diving here, better than anywhere I have dived in the Caribbean too, thats why I am still here!
As BiancaC said we are now doing St Vincent and spending at least a day and a half there each week as the diving is wonderful. Being on the leeward side of the island it is very calm and the vis is usually better there than anywhere else on the itinerary. We also anchor in a little bay called Wallilabou Bay (which was the scene for the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean) and this is incredibly beautiful.
Topside and underwater the area has alot to offer.

St. Vincent was a great addition to the itinerary. We've been there a few times land-based (along with Bequia once) and it's one of our favorite places to dive in the Caribbean. One of my long-standing dive wishes has been for a liveaboard in St. Vincent and to get more dive time further north on the coast, and it was a pleasant surprise to get my wish on that trip!
