GREETINGS
My husband, Don, and I took up diving last summer! We are in our mid fifties. How did we get into diving? Well, a new dive shop was opening up in our town here in Michigan.. Don mentioned how much fun his brother and sister in law were having diving. I asked him if he had ever considered diving. He lit up and said that he had always wanted to dive! In fact he had been scheduled to go to scuba school when he was in Viet Nam, serving in the Marine Corps. Several days before he was supposed to leave for the classes he went out on one more patrol and was shot in the shoulder. Thus ended his career as a Marine and his scuba training.( The upside of this was that he met me) Well, I said to myself Oh shoot, he wants to do it, well his doctor will never sign the permission slip but at least I can get him to go in for a checkup Well, he talked the Doctor into it and came home with the slip. And I said Shoot, he got permission, well maybe my doctor will say no! Well, she said yes, we took the classes, passed the OW in July, dove at a light tower in Virginia beach, practiced a lot in White Star Quarry, spent a week at Cobalt Coast Resort and DiveTec on Grand Cayman this past February and dove the May river by Hilton Head with SeaJay and Jason last week. We are limited to shallower dives (30-60 feet) due to health concerns on Dons part. Sometimes it is hard to find good shallower dives. We learn more on every dive and also learn how much we still need to know. Practice, practice , practice. We love it! I have been following this scuba board for about a month and have gotten a lot of useful information
