"A tree or shrub of the same family as the horse chestnut with showy clusters of small flowers, large divided leaves, and large brown seeds."

The seeds look like a deer's eye (kinda).

Ohioans are often referred to as "Buckeyes" (it's our state tree) hence the reference "from a buckeye."
