I have just recently got interested in diving and am going to be getting certified as soon as I get a chance, being in the Navy doesnt let me make too many long term plans. I have always wanted to try scuba diving but being that I didnt grow up near any water and never touched the ocean before enlisting I never got the chance. I am trying to learn as much as I can from reading books and forums like this until I get a chance to take any lessons. I am considering a career in diving, at least part time when I get out and am greatly looking forward to learning as much as I can. And to all of you that are already experienced and are willing to help with advice to us beginners, thank you.

Welcome...Navy boy. If you haven't been diving before you are in for an experience. This part time diving crap is going to run out of your head so fast.....well depends on how much you take to it,....right? Good luck. Have you looked into a certifying agency. SSI is outstanding look into it.

Thank you for your service brother.

welcome aboard

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am getting the feeling that the diving community is a close knit and very helpful community. I am hopefully going to be getting certified in december and am so looking forward to it. I have been reading as much as I can online and in books, Scuba diving for dummies is pretty informative. I am looking forward to getting out and really learning hands on and getting certified before I go on my next deployment and have the chance to dive in hawaii and australia. Thanks again for the welcome and advice.

Welcome aboard and THANKS for your service! Don't miss an opportunity that being in the Navy offers for great diving locations. I "wasted" my time surfing and only now realize I wish I had started diving then and took up surfing now. LOL
