New diver here, just certified on Memorial Day weekend (2004). So far I've only dove Haigh Quarry near Kankakee Illinois.. had a blast and found out that cold water isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Of course 7mm of neoprene helped a lot too!

Hi makinbubbles!
Welcome to Scubaboard!
Both of my sons were also certified at Haigh Quarry. Fun place.

Welcome. I'll be out at Haigh this Saturday afternoon. I'll be taking off from the Illinois Institute of Dving (436 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn) DS at about 11:30 if ya get a hankering to get wet.

Joe

Thanks much for the heads up on this weekend Joe. I've got the kids this weekend (divorced father of two) so looks like I'll be high and dry. I am however going to Haigh on the 10th and 11th. Supposed to meet up with some friends from the dive shop I certified with and/or some cousins. But what the hell.. the more the merrier.

Bob

Hey Makinbubbles,

Nice to hear from you. If you get a chacne to should try to find time to get over to Pearl Lake in South Beloit, IL, just shy of the border on route 39. I got certified here last year.

I was wearing 7 mm that weekend, too - off of the Channel Islands of Calf...

BTW - Did you set up your Profile, as suggested here: http://www.scubaboard.com/t60416.html I update mine after every trip.

:D

We're also IL divers, and just stumbled onto Scubaboard tonight...we got certified 20+ years ago, then "took a break" while the kids were little, and now hope to get back into it, since our youngest son is taking lessons. His check-out is supposed to be at Haigh Quarry...what was the water temp when you were out there? Any helpful advice or suggestions you can give would be appreciated! Thanks!
