I just don't log dives

Just seen this story on an Indonesian news website. A 3m GWS showed up during a dive at Pura Ped dive site, in Nusa Penida. It was captured on a GoPro by a foreign tourist on Wed 12th March, at a depth of 20m-25m.

I'm not sure if the water temp. had anything to do with the GWS showing up on North side of Penida, usually it's always warmer. But I went for a dip at Nusa Dua on the South-SE mainland last Sunday, and the water was noticeably cooler, around 23-24°c, but very nice.

It would've been super exciting for the dive group, & the lucky tourist that captured the footage! 😃

That's the second filmed sighting that I know of. The other video is terribly shot and embarrassing.

This looks like quite a large female to me.
Either way, amazing to see a Great White around Bali, not typically home turf for this species.

I don't need that kind of excitement in my life. 😄

A few years ago, a great white was spotted in the area, a week+ after I had returned home. That was fine with me.

That video only shows people who seems to lack basic diving skills and panicking when they should have remained calm and enjoyed the moment. I thought that diver was hyperventilating.

Dang... I wanted to invite you to dive in Sogod Bay South Africa.... it's great whites and other critters in their native environments.

I would have shat myself and produced a very shaky video and lots of bubbles like the second video 😂

I believe that second video was shot in 2019 in crystal bay nusa penida. There is another video from around the same time shot by some Thai divers which is much calmer clearer. I read that they had seen a big fish go past but weren't sure what it was, another group of divers followed it into the blue (presumably not realising what it was) and then hot footed it back to the reef with the shark following them. Possibly the ones who made this shaky video?

We're visiting Nusa Penida in June - hoping the water has warmed up sufficiently to keep these girls away!

Thanks anyway 😄 I've had lots of close encounters with sharks of a few varieties. I've no interest in great whites, other than on video as a viewer.
