Hello every-one. My name is Lisa and i'm brand new here. I have been an open water diver for 15 years. I have always dreamed of diving with a Great white shark. I was interested to know if any-one has done this. I have looked into trips but would like to know which ones are good. Any ideas or input would be great.
Thanks

Welcome aboard... lot's of good info here and interesting people too.

Great Whites? I've heard of Reef Sharks and such, but Great Whites? Sounds kind of neat... do you do this in a cage or are you the bait?

I'm curious what others will say...

Welcome to the board!

Hi, Lisa. Welcome to SB. I did some cage diving with the great whites at Guadalupe Island last December. There is a three part account of my trip, along with a number of pictures, on my web site (see link below) in the Dive Dry with Dr. Bill newspaper columns section. That might be of help.

Of course if you're not interested in cage diving you can always go to east Africa where I hear they dive with great whites and tigers at the same time from what I've read. I can't remember the specific site (Aliwal Shoals?).

Dr. Bill -

Just read your three part series on your Guadeloupe experiences...sounds like a truly amazing trip. I would love to go, but I think the trip would be partially wasted without having some good still or video camera skills (and associated equipment - both of which I've just begun getting into)

That's definately the type of trip you want to bring back some decent pics from!

Protea Banks, likely to have nurse sharks (Ragged Tooth), Tiger Sharks, Zambezi (Bull Sharks) and Hammerheads but not sure about the White Sharks. It is possible to get all of these sharks on one dive as far as I've heard. Its off Shelly Beach in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. Aliwal Shoal is also in this region and depending on the time of the year also great for sharks (June/July is about that time as it is the Sardine Run)

I personally dived at Protea Banks with about 30 Raggies. The other group also saw Tiger Sharks on that dive.

Otherwise shark cage diving in Gansbaai, Cape Town, South Africa. Here is one of the best places to sea White Sharks. The documentary Air Jaws (Discovery Channel) was filmed in South Africa in this region and off Seal Island in False Bay. For more info and pics about cape town shark diving check out http://www.airjaws.com/

I've seen that special on Discovery probably 10 times... those images are just incredible. Can you imagine one of those breaching within a few yards of your boat?!?

Talk about "shock and awe"...
