Hey Guys,
My brother is going to school up in Northern MN and I have family up north of St Cloud. I wanted to dive up that way when I visit him next summer and was wondering if this book is any good(Great Lakes Diving by Chris Kohl). Also is there any place that he can get certified during the winter? Im not sure what the weather constraints are but I am sure they are great. He lives in Ely and I will be in FL for most of the spring and would like to introduce him to diving.

How far north of St.cloud?, he could get certified in brainerd this winter, thats where we live. The only thing he would have to wait for is checkout dives in the spring.(unless he goes on the winter trip to truk)Let me know if you want to hookup and dive the mine pits in crosby, very good diving!!!!!!!

I'd be intrested in diving the mine pits. I have heard of this just in passing conversations from relatives up north but no little about them. Is there any kind of info sites or anything else on them. How clear/ cool is the water? It would be different and there fore very cool. Work dependent I should be up that way next summer and I would be intrested.

If it's in the Great Lakes, and Cris dosn't know about it, it's not worth knowing.

The mine pits are pretty cold and clear, vis is around 40 to 50ft, (if it hasn't rained) There is a few cars, a big culvert you can enter at 15ft, exit at 70ft.2 divers side by side Lots and lots of fish. Old structures, and trees, trees, trees. We see something new almost every time. The depth is up to 400ft+!! (We hang around 45ft, above the thermocline)If you do a search, try cuyuna mine pits. It's a blast!!!!
