Just wanted to pass on a great charter dive boat, from Pensacola Fl. The women of our family just got certified, and we had been planning a dive trip once our son returned from Iraq.Okay, I know that the weather is unpredictable, but it had been a pretty good week, weather wise. We get up and head to our charter boat. The trip is just the 5 of us... plus captain and crew. We head out of the bay and the weather is looking wonderful.. but then "the perfect storm" minus the shrimp and George Clunie, hits. My oldest daughter and I begin singing the theme to Gilligans Island.. just sit right back and you'll hear the tail... Well, the captain suggest we deter to a different site then we had planned.. so off we go.. but the storm just seems to follow us. So we call it quits. The captain takes us back into the bay and suggest a couple of shallow dives, since the bay is much calmer and the weather is a bit better there.. Okay,, we are going to get to suck air!! We get to the site, and my rental BCD is a piece of crap!!! The inflate button is stuck!!!!! I unhook it and decided to just manually inflate.. head down the anchor line.. and my daughter finger spells (thank goodness we are able to sign) to me that my tank is leaking!!! My husband and son had already tried tightening it, but to no avail.. so I head back up and end up sitting on the boat. Thank goodsness this all happens the way it did, cause I would have been really upset if it had turned out to be wonderful weather and I was having to miss the dive.. All this said, the captain was great, charged us next to nothing for the dive, and was a very "family oriented" trip. We are planning another dive in September, and I highly recommend him. If you get a chance to dive from Pensacola, look up Viking Dive Charters!

Hi Grits,
How wonderful to be able to dive with your family! Sorry to hear about your equipment problems - especially the inflator issue- that could have been a disaster but it sounds like you handled it just fine. My husband and I also dive the panhandle area so maybe we'll give Viking Dive a try sometime. We had to cancel our own plans to dive this weekend after we saw the extended forecast for the area. It has been raining non-stop for 2 weeks and I'm more than ready for a little sunshine.
