I did not like hearing all the cruise ships and boats running by ever second, when we were at Sunset & Eden rock. Don't get me wrong it was still a nice dive. My vote is to hit Divetech at both their shorediving shops on the Northwall. They also have unlimited shore diving with their boat packages which we took advange of. We were diving everday on the Northwall which was really awesome. We liked their boats and especially their staff.

no, that is a very valid point. i don't like the whine of the turbines underwater either,
but did find that after a while i just tuned them out.

My dive buddy and I (both novices by our standards) would like to do a "warm-up dive" upon our arrival to Grand Cayman so we get ourselves comfortable and situated before doing our boat dives the next day. We are staying along 7 mile beach. Any good suggestions?

If you're on the North End of SMB, I'd go to Divetech north of the Turtle Farm. It's an easy entry out to the mini-wall from their ladder through a little sheltered cove. You should see some tarpon and you might see a turtle or two - we did.

If you're closer to the South end of SMB, either Eden Rock or Sunset House. If you don't have a car, Eden Rock is closer.

Eden Rock is also an easy entry but it's in Georgetown to the South. Good facilities but the reef has seen better days.

Sunset House is about two minutes south of town, but they have nice facilities, great diving - check out the mermaid in about 50', and a great bar/grill on the water for afterwards.

All things being equal, I'd go to Sunset House.
