Can anyone suggest a good dive operator in Grand Cayman. Last time there we were on the Aggressor. Is there any advantage of hotels. We are probably staying at the Westin. I hear Red Sail operates from there. We have a teenager who likes to party and the beach so we look to compromise diving vs beach. I would appreciate any info. Thanks

Red Sail contracts with Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, and The Disney Cruise Line. Some of their boats are quite large and can take a fairly large number of sometimes "inexperienced" cruise divers. They gear their dives towards the lowest common denominator skill level, with follow the leader diving and limited bottom time. This description applies to their west end operations. The east end operations tend to attract the more serious diver as they are the kind of person interested in staying there, away from the hoards of cruise ship passengers and the over developed 7 mile beach.

Dive operators with good reputations are:
Red Baron , but you will have to book way ahead as Nick fills up quickly.
www.neptunesdivers.com They often have a later start time to accommodate a cruise diver or 2, but they have an 8 diver max on a decent boat.
Off the Wall divers Usually have early start times.
fisheye divers gets good marks, especially if you are a photographer

You can check out almost all the dive operators on Grand Cayman on www.divecayman.ky

I wouldn't suggest Red Sail either... Both DiveTech and Ocean Frontiers run a good operation and will pick you up at your hotel. DiveTech is closer to you and a good group but I prefer East end diving, more interesting which is where Ocean Frontiers is located.

Would also recommend Neptune's Divers. Dove with them last September--very accommodating (to us coming from a cruise ship), significantly less expensive than the trip offered by Red Sail (through the cruise line)...and it was very personal--only four of us on the boat (including the DM and boat captain).

We dove last year with TIDivers. They're located just south of the Treasure Island resort on SMB. Good dive operation, 3 boats with small groups, they left us alone to do our own thing and also escorted anyone who asked or on deeper dives. I don't think we ever exceeded about 12-15 people on our boat except for an afternoon Dive/Snorkel trip to Stingray City. Since they're on SMB, they advertise that they get to the sites quicker, but I don't know if this was true or not, there was only one time that we had another boat near us during 4 days of diving, there's a lot of divesites on the West side of Cayman. They'll pick you up anywhere along SMB if you call them, but judging from the number of diveshop vans I saw so will just about anyone else. They also dive the South side pretty regularly depending on the weather.

I had heard Red Sail catered more to the cruise ship groups with their schedules. Also they have a couple of larger boats which generally means more of a cattle boat approach. And they were slightly more expensive than just about anyone else which is why we didn't consider them.

I also had exchanged e-mail with Don Foster's they're around the Comfort Suites area, we almost booked with them until we realized our condo was walking distance to TI Divers.

My husband had good experiences with Red Sail (we don't cruise on the big ships) out of Indies Suites, but his strong preference is Sunset Divers at Sunset House. Very experienced, great service and the diving right off the dock at Sunset House is great, especially seeing "Amphitrite" the Mermaid. The bar at the hotel can't be beat, either.

Check it out and have a great time in Cayman! :dazzler1:

I'll be in Cayman from this Saturday through next Sunday and staying on 7MB. But I'm diving daily w/ Ocean Frontiers (oceanfrontiers.com) and it's worth driving across the island every morning.

Amazing diving on the East End.

I did my padi O/W with Red Sail. They were really nice. As a new diver I really appreciated there hand holding. My wife had slow ears and the Instrucor was very good with her. As a more experianced diver they could be a little annoying now.

My wife and I have been to Grand Cayman 3 times. We did a resort course with Red Sail. They were good, but they're overpriced for a cattleboat. We did our OW cert with Divetech on our second trip and are convinced they are the best. We went back a third time and Divetech is who we chose.

We've recommended Divetech to several friends and they've all had great dives.
