GTBUP | Welcome to Grand Traverse Bay!
The Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve Council has just released their new web site with spectacular underwater photography, movies of surveys in action and new, unreleased pictures of whats in Grand Traverse Bay!
As a leader in cutting-edge technology, the GTBUP begins the new season using the MS-1000 Sector Scan, in search for more historically and culturally significant artifacts lying on the bottomlands. Accredited college classes in the field of underwater archaeology are scheduled; including evening classes through Northwestern Michigan Colleges extended education office and a distant learning program accessible through the internet.
Join the GTBUP Underwater Archaeological Survey Team as they begin their 2008 survey of Grand Traverse Bay with state-of-the-art electronics and mapping software. Team up with Dr. Mark Holley, Underwater Archaeologist, Brian Abbott, Geophysicist, Nautilus Marine Group and students from NMCs Underwater Archaeology program as they set their sights on undiscovered shipwrecks and other cultural valuable items in Grand Traverse Bay.
The Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve (proposed) is a community movement to establish an underwater preserve in Grand Traverse Bay. The purpose of the preserve is to promote underwater recreation and Maritime Heritage & Tourism in the Great Lakes.
Mission Statement: To sustain an Underwater Preserve by enhancing education, research and preservation of our Great Lakes and maritime heritage, and by the promotion of tourism and public recreation.
