i have downloaded the updates manually and nothing seems to work

After inserting a formatted SD card and trying the online update process, when it hangs up, try shutting down GoPro, disconnect from computer, make sure battery is fully charged and press the on button on GoPro while it is NOT connected by usb. The update may be on your SD card and then update runs from the SD card. This what I did and it worked for GP3 Black. It took quite a while to update so be patient
