Yea but not close to shore, I was talking bout 1 mile. Great Whites are misunderstood.

Is 50-100 feet considered close to shore? There is a ~14' great white that is frequently seen along Pebbly Road swimming at this distance from shore.

Anyone thinking of diving Seal Rocks at the East End in other than outstanding visibility is a bit too much of a thrill seeker for me! Yes, GW's are there. Yes, we see them hit sea lions occasionally from our boats. No, I don't dive there. But elsewhere I don't consider them a threat unless vis is poor (like summer before last) and I'm doing a long surface swim.

There are several boats out of Ventura Harbor that go out to the Channel Islands. I would check into the Explorer. Great people and boat. We dove Santa Cruz island yesterday and saw a couple of sea lions and one large harbor seal. Although, we got a ton of scallops.

According to Peter Benchley in "Shark Trouble", you should never dive around seals or sea lions. A Great White might mistake you for an unwary seal.
