lovers cove , mccabee, and break water(monterey bay) all have been real good for the seals, sea lions, and sea otters, and i have been able to get good pictures as well as having the harbor seal tugging on my fin, also have pics of that!

Lol, Harbor seals always hate other seals around them I guess they thought you were a seal..lol...Monterey, Laguna Beach, and thousand islands will be my destinations this year. I wanna go scuba in San Juan Islands...KILLER WHALES..WOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On my 2nd dive off of Anacapa Island we dove with hundreds of sea lions. No lie. I thought it was just normal to be doing my OW and seeing them all over the place doing kamakazee runs at us. It was quite an experience. As we have gone back to Anacapa I always see one or two who swim up and check us out, but the whole group that swam with us that one day have left. I had a pup nipping on my fin.

Hi,
Ok I know a few places where seals are, Elephant seals I know where the mass gathering is but they're wayyy too aggressive to scuba in the water! Is monterey a good place?
Or somewhere in San Diego?

Please post if you know any places in California that posses good marine life (seals and possibly dolphins).

Thanks :06:

You indicated So Cal, but also Monterey as possible destinations. Monterey has sea lions, harbor seals, and much more as sea life that interacts with you during dives.

I've had harbor seals grab ahold of my fin and try to take it away...When that didn't work, one came right up to me, a few inches away from my face and blew bubbles at me....Maybe he was trying to communicate and I didn't understand his language...LOL

Ancient Mariner:
About a month ago on the Conception of Truth Aquatics four harbor seals were all aound us showing off their skills and tugging at our fins.

I was on the Conception about a month ago and had the same experience. Do I know you? The trip we were on had a very small group - 14 total passengers. Are we talking about the same trip?

Yea, I want to go to the channel Islands not sure where it is(I think around Ventura)...Do you take a boat or sumting?

You can take a boat from Ventura to the Channel Islands - you can even camp there.. it's also a good place for sea kayaking!

For the boat info, check out Island Packers - their website is here: http://www.islandpackers.com/

Try diving the channel islands or if you ever make it up to the Santa Barbara area, Carpinteria Reef for sure has a large harbor seal population. We see them all the time there and at other reefs where we do research. I don't know about other areas but if I remember correctly there's like a seal or sea lion beach down in la jolla, maybe you can dive with them nearby?

Good luck

Thomas

Santa Barbara area is hmmmm, i think 3 hours from where I live(NOT SURE,GOTTA CHECK THINKING OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD),I live in the cruy L.A. area.
