PerroneFord:
Jakub,

You may just have the best bargain on the market with this BP/W. Once word spreads around the US about this setup, you're going to sell every one you have.

Can you PM me, couple of things I want to ask you about.

I wish I'd seen that deal sooner, I'd have bought one. For that price you can hardly go wrong. :shades:

Vie:
For those of you who ordered your Golem Gear wings mailed to South Africa and Spain - did you order from the US? What are the prices like compared to buying and mailing from Europe?

Yes, I ordered from GolemGear.com. From the Websites:

DTD - Complete 15kg (~33#) CUB BP/Wing = 11870 Kc (Czech Republic Koruny)
This equates to 3006 ZAR at today's exchange rate

GolemGear - Complete 35# BP/Wing = 350 USD
This equates to 2098 ZAR at today's exchange rate

Taking shipping into consideration:

Postage from EU is approximately R320
Postage from the US is approximately R250

That's a total saving of nearly 1000 ZAR ($170)!

I was under the impression that Golem Gear wings are made by DTD

I don't know if they are made by DTD, but they do appear to be made in the same factory.

Cheers,

Andrew

Thank you for the figures, Andrew. Appreciate it.

No problem!

I did these calculations when I was researching which system to buy. Having to buy with a fairly weak currency from the other side of the globe means that a lot more time is spent in research to make sure you GIR (Get It Right).

Now I wish that plane would hurry up!

Cheers,

Andrew

Jakub was very quick in his response to my email inquiry as well. I am still considering a rig from him even though I have something else in the works so far... (I was upfront with him about this). His professionalism impressed me.

Well, I managed to get the golem wet today.

Highlights:

1. Even though the wing came with rods, I really liked adding a light STA for extra stability and the little bump of extra weight it gave (no weight belt needed in 5/4mm fullsuit).

2. Winter came on quick today with temperatures in the mid 80's.

3. We swam with a 6 - 7' gator. AWESOME.

Here are the pics of the rig as promised. I added a couple of the spring basin because it was looking good. Hope no one minds!

Pics look terrific. I was wondering how your dives went today. Mine were interesting to say the least. Lots of things to work on. You have GOT to tell us about the gator though!

I saw a turtle about 20' away and started to go check it out. My buddy grabbed my fin and told me to stop. We descended a few feet more and he pointed to the turtle. I asked if he wanted to swim to the turtle and he said no, that there was a giant frikkin' gator there.

So I turn my head to the left and... WHOA BIG GATOR. Consumption went straight up for a second - it looked huge underwater. It was by the turtle, swishing its ridged tail in the water and moving its legs to move forward at a slow pace. We hovered at around 10' and watched it. It came to rest near some vegetation and remained there for the entire 1:15 of bottom time we had. It was just outside the large basin which drops to 25', so we had alot of oppurtunity to check it out at different angles.

It never bothered us and we never bothered it. The gator is an impressive animal underwater. We verified the size when we surfaced - it was longer than me and I am 6' 1".

I feel privelaged to say the least. This is one good example of why buddy diving and situational awareness are important skills to hone.
