I too have traveled alone and have had excellent opportunities to meet many great people (insta buddies) and have some excellent diving experiences. Diving is great sport in that regard.

I have been a buddieless diver for all of my diving career. I have never had a problem finding a suitable buddy when I go on a trip. In fact I have made some great friends over the years. I let the dive op know right up front that I am by myself and I either get paired up with someone or a dive master goes with. One thing that I will suggest however is that if you get paired up with someone that is not a good match, stand up for your self and tell the DM that you want to dive with someone else. Don't dive with a bad buddy just because they paired you up.
