For scuba application do you need to use the scuba cap or does the standard cap work for scuba applications?

Have to use the scuba cap, it has a sealing O-ring. the other does not. FYI, if you have one that you can change the flash patterns, it can be kind of tricky getting the patterns to change (a back & forth twisting motion). with the 2 I've had, it seems to be more a matter of luck toget it to change.
