I am working on a project for a class that I am in. It is:
"Girls Dive In"
This is an 8 week nutrition, scuba, body awareness and cooking
class for up to 15 girls between the ages on 10-14 and their
moms (or dads). This class will provide an opportuinity to get
certified in scuba, learn healthy cooking and eating habits as
well as body awareness in order to lead a healthy, active
lifestyle.

The participants are inner city families from low to middle
class income.

The inital orientation is April 19th at 1 P.M. at Elmer's Water Sports at 1310 West Oakton Evanston IL 60202

We have space for up to 15 Girls and their parent. This is a great opportunity to bond and get more females in to a wonderful sport.

Please contact Erin Austria at erinaustria@hotmail.com

I am not sure yet. I am waiting to hear from a couple of grants that to whom I wrote. All of that info will be available at the orientation.

Also, The date has been changed to Sunday, April 20th at 4 P.M. It is Passover- I am sorry about that- but if you are interested in joining in, I can get the information to you.

Thanks,
Erin

I am interested in your whole program. I dedicate around 50 percent of my practice to working with under privileged clients. I have long felt that the use of scuba would enhance their lives. I know there is a program out of chicago where a fellow works with small groups of at risk teens and then documents the effects that using scuba has on their lives (i.e. better grades, continued training, decreased involvement with the legal system). So please keep us informed. Finding clients should not be hard. Contact area school counselors and take five minutes to explain your program. They will love it.

Hi Bus Diver,

The program to which you refer is called Stars. I have had the privilage of meeting him and hearing about his work. He deserves all the promotion that he can get! I hope that my program reaches out to children in that way as well.

I will keep you informed.

Hi Bus Diver,

The program to which you refer is called Stars.

That is it. Thank you. I have done some reading on his work and I think it is great. A few of us have kicked around a similar program in Detroit and the surrounding suburbs but have yet to pull the trigger. Keep us informed on your work.

Jamie

Thanks to all have called and/or emailed me regarding this exciting project. There has been so much interest in this project that I have to revamp the schedule a bit. I am going to postpone the orientation until I can accomodate this new interest. I will post a new schedule as soon as I have it worked out.

Thanks,
Erin
