....so we can boycott it ;)

I live in London so do a lot of other divers, who Knows they could go bust!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Buy the way great choice of reg. ;)

I went to a dive show in Birmingham years ago and got some great bargains. Take your money there!

There are always sexist salesmen out there and a few women as well (LOL I'm a guy and I've had female shop assistants make unwanted comments). It's just his way of dealing with his insecurity while being around your incredible legs. Play right back at them :)

gigimartin:
and please don't be cross girls I am jesting a little here) But there is a time and place for all that and I was so dissapointed that MY £350 pounds plus the fact that I am a diver didn't warrant a decent response. Anyway I'm still getting an abyss even if that man thinks its too butch for a girl, and besides it being a brilliant relable sturdy :bounce: make I think its beautiful and will go nicely with my hair. Can't belive how bothered I am at all.

1) Take your business elsewhere, but not before a nice heart-to-heart with the shop owner informing him/her how the stupidity of one of their staff has cost them money.

2) Buy the Abyss! I've had one for 4 years & love it. So far it's been in salt & fresh water; warm & cold water (only down to 55F, thusfar). Down at 120' it breathes as nicely as it did at 15', in any orientation. Frankly, I don't find it especially "heavy". But then, my previous reg was a 1991 Sherwood Blizzard, which is bit of a clunker itself. ;)

Go to the show and see if you can pick up a good deal there, you often get prices at or below dealer proces (up to 50% off).

The abyss is great. I have breathed it at 300 ft and it is a pleasure. Only thing is it is a little heavy. There is a slightly lighter version (called the MR16 if I remember correctly) that looks like a saussage but has the exact same internal geometry as the abyss so performs the same. It may have a couple less ports too.

I'll chime in also. Don't let that pinhead keep you from a great regulator, but I wouldn't let him make a profit off of you, especially since it sounds like he didn't contribute to your product selection (on either the performance or accessorizing fronts).

I hate to hear about people like that - it's always nice to pretend that they all just sort of dried up and withered away at some point in our evolution.

If you can't find a good dive shop in London, why don't you just drop over to South Florida. We have lots of them, and they are used to respecting divers, regardless of age, gender, race, etc.

I had the same experience when I went to buy my car last fall. After enduring a half hour of "where's your husband/boyfriend/SO? Why isn't he (she?) here helping you with this?", I walked out and went to another dealer. Some people are morons.

It sounds like you definately need a new store to shop in. I will tell you this much, if it had been one of our employees they would no longer have a job. In the diving industry for every 1 customer you make happy you get an average of 3 new customers, for every 1 customer you make mad you loose around 5 customers.

A couple years ago I was at Beneath the Sea with my friend and our fiances. While the guys did their own thing. My friend and I walked up and down looking at all of the neat booths. I do not know how many times that people at the booths talked to us assumed that we were there for our guys. Then after they found out that we were divers they assumed that the only kind of diving that we did was warm tropical diving. Their mouths hung open in amazement when we told them that 80% of the diving we did was in the northeast, usually in drysuits. Girls not diving in bikinis?!?! It can't be!
