Some of the media reports seem to suggest that the pic linked in the OP is not the girl attacked here?

For example, this one quotes her father and talks about hoping to save the leg - that would not be possible with the leg in the picture as there was nothing that really looked salvageable there?

Florida girl 'punched, poked' shark in the eye before her brother fought it off, father says
The photo could very well not be related, but it accompanied the story from someone who first shared it in a group and someone who claimed to be familiar with the situation stated it was accurate. All hearsay.

A good source is from her father's Facebook. The way he puts it is it's a really bad injury and the prospects of keeping the leg sound grim.

That pix is undoubtedly bogus. If nothing else, the damage shown is MUCH worse than has been described by the father and the girl. Also, the leg in the picture appears to be of a much larger, fatter person than the girl.

Agreed - seems a lot of conflicting info at present. The pic you posted could be legit for for this “attack” as it is the right leg and the tourniquet is clearly visible - just seems odd to me that they seem to be talking about saving the leg.

However, I’m not a doctor so maybe there is still some way of salvaging that leg - just seems like not much left to work with?

Yeah, this statement from that link is incongruent with the original photo posted here...

I suspect a common internet prank. The photo did not come from a news site.

No it did not and the media would not publish a photo like that. The photo came from a local Florida Gulf Coast diving group.

I'm not a doctor but the dads FB post is definitely not consistent with the photo. In that photo there is almost no thigh left to attempt repairs on.

I saw it on that page too. There were people going back and forth about legitimacy - I ran it through reverse image search and didnt come up with anything, so if it is fake, it's not a widely distributed one.
