They didn't close for the death recently, just that diving wasn't allowed in Devil's. Ginnie isn't going to turn away money unless they absolutely have to.
Just like so many popular caves in Mexico, Ginnie makes a small fraction of their overall income from divers. I hope it doesn’t come true, but I could see Ginnie following the Mexican land owners lead and make it a permanent ban. My understanding is the owner feels divers are more of a headache than a positive. Also supposedly Rose was the one keeping diver access open. She’s no longer there so we don’t have a ton of proponents on our side behind the scenes anymore
