As much as I hate to interrupt the action figure volley (was always a hardcore GI Joe fan myself), I'm curious about depths and vis in the Quarry. Although it looks like Gill was having the time of his life, the conditions didn't look like anything I'd rush to the state of Connecticut for. Tell me I'm wrong, please.

ScubaNorth:
What is the no mask gig he has going? That is one tuff dude diving sans mask in a chilly quarry.

Too many Tech classes.... He got sick of having it ripped off his head, so he figured out how to evolve his eyes into Super Underwater Power Eyes, to see through the quarry water.

Hey there yall. I see poor Cbsaw is getting some wacko comments about his Gillman endeavors. Wasnt it just a few months ago some of these hecklers were discussing taking a gnome on a dive trip ? And the Gillman is actually going in the water.

I kinda like the Gillman. Anyone who enjoys diving the quarry is a freind of mine.

I'm glad to have the opportunity to dive such a place and I appreciate all the work and effort put forth by the Brownstone crew. The Brownstone EDP is 22.5 miles from my front door (according to MapQuest), so I look forward to many more visits. Thanks guys.

That's awesome, and I appreciate your enthusiasm. Sell me on the conditions of the place, though! It's a great idea, hopefully it will become a model for future endeavors.

Again...average vis? Temps? bottom structures? Anyone? I wait with enthusiastically baited breath.

There is something waaaaaaaaaay too "Brokeback Mountain" about these pics!

I was too chicken to be the first guy to say it, but yeah, KeelHaul, I think you saw the same picture I did.

Not that there's anything WRONG with that..........=)

"Ah wish ah knew how to quit you, Gill Gilman."

Vis right now is still a little rough, but, par for the course with most New England diving.. The Gil Gillman pictures were taken right after a good hard rain. Hence the particulate.. Bottom is, just what it is....a Quarry. Breathtaking brownstone walls going from 15ffw to 80ffw or so. Lots of history down there, as it was an operating quarry untill the floods came in the early 1900's typical freshwater diving, many thermoclines and dark on the bottom, but it has a spooky kind of feeling to it. Right now the Brownstone EDP propriters are working with Eastern CT university to start clearing up the vis. All I can say is look out when it is clear, swimming out over those walls will be absolutley amazing!! Temps stay in the low 40's on the bottom year round and surface temps jump up into the 70's

Come on down and join us, open every weekend, and all week starting in May..

PD:

How's it going?? Drop me a line sometime if you want to check it out, I'll give you a tour! Bring the camera, there can be decent ops for video if you go to the right spots. There is some really interesting history and some real interesting cars, trucks, scrap metal, etc.

Let me know!
