Dove Torch Lake, nr Traverse City all summer I did ONE wet suit dive in 2 months all the rest in my dry suit and also a number of dives in Tobermory, not a chance of wet suit dives up there:)

What? I hear that diving wet in Toby is a good way to lose mass off a certain part of the male body (at least for a while).

Seriously, I had my drysuit when I dove Toby for the first time and was glad that I did. I think that Gilboa at depth is the only place that I have ever dove that is colder. But, then I want to dive Whitefish next year :11: .

Hey Brian,
We did a shore dive off Whitefish Point right by the lighthouse and the water was 61 degrees. The water only got about 20 feet deep and we were out nearly 250 yards and gone for an hour. Guess that's why there's a lighthouse there huh? :) Take a boat if you want a deep cold dive ;)

Thanks Ber,

Personally, I was looking at possibly diving the wrecks up there, but that lighthouse dive doesn't sound too bad for an "end of the day" dive to kill off the remaining air in my doubles.

All this talk makes me feel like I should be cold in my wetsuit. :frosty: I'd like to go with a drysuit but I spent too much on other gear this year. Maybe next year. Or maybe I'll make one myself. I'm thinking a couple chemical suits and a roll of duct tape should do the trick. Two suits in case I rip the outside one. One can't be too careful and I keep hearing about the need for redundancy. Sounds like a great winter project. I'll be sure to inform everyone when I test it out. :D

Don't forget the best reason of all to have a drysuit.

P-Valve! Nothing more need be said.

Funny, all this talk about drysuits, and I just bought my first real wetsuit! We (the boss lady and I) find ourselves getting to Florida a couple times a year now that our daughter has settled in Ft. Myers. We're headed down the second week of January and I intend to get down to the Keys to dive with my friends at Ocean Quest in Islamorada and wanted a 'little' more protection than my shorty provides. So I got a 3mil one piece full suit and a 'beanie' style hood to wear. I DOUBT that it'll ever get wet here in Michigan unless that global warming thing really kicks into high gear!!!

Wait just one minute. Nothing more to be said? Have you forget about us females? We still don't have that perk yet. :icosm11:

Some of us are too poor for that option. Mine is a basic drysuit. It doesn't have that feature.

I just bought a 3mil for Florida as well. My parents have a place in Naples so I'm headed there on Wed. and driving to Key Largo Saturday morning. Can't wait. Round trip ticket non-stop from Detroit was only $140 to Ft. Meyers. I thought that was a pretty good deal.
