Am I reading the announcement right? If they were actually going to have approximately 2400 reservations that is an amazing number.

Hey Andy, why not come down to Portage and say Hi.

I'd love to Jim but I'm working. I wasn't planning on going to Gilboa. I haven't had much time to dive this year. The wife is pregnant with twins and has been on bed rest since the first week of May. So I've been Mr. Mom with our 3-year-old. I've managed a few dives here and there but not much. Have fun!

Greetings all and I am also concerned for those who have not yet heard about the postponed event. I fear many will have not gotten the word till they arrive.
As Denny has mentioned it is going to be interesting. By the way Denny I will be bring ADULT BEVERAGES with me so regardless of the outcome the camp fire will be just fine! I am looking forward to hearing of your Solo coarse and the other great stories you wish to share. I always love our conversations.

Jim will you be at Portage on Sunday? I would love to come up and see you.
My wife is leaving sometime on Saturday afternoon and I could run over and catch up with you. If you are busy training I understand no worries. I have a feeling that next year I am going to get out and about quite a bit more. Traveling that is.

I am heading over to Gilboa Friday night and then probably off to dinner promptly around 8 pm give or take. It is looking like the Red Pig possibly, we will have see.
GRIMACE awaits us let's not disappoint him! It is rumored that he will eat those who mock him! I always carefully clean his eye's and offer my respects.

Safe diving and training Jim it will be busy over there I am sure. IF all hell breaks loose we may see you sooner than we think!

CamG Keep diving....Keep training....Keep learning!

From what I heard, Mike is not intending to refund anyones money. I got that second hand so it might not be true but regardless this is poor planning at its finest. Mike seems to be more and more "out of touch" and doesn't think about how his decisions will impact peoples willingness to choose Gilboa over another quarry or charter. If another quarry were to step things up by building some platforms, planning out some "after the dive options" and sinking a few attractions and Gilboa is in serious trouble.

I guess the poster for next year will read something like this "Come and join us for our attempt to break the record (unless we run short, then we'll cancel and try again next year).

Personally I'm guessing he wasn't even close on the numbers for the event. If he was even in the ball park the money he would lose on the deposit for the food and facilities as well as the money invested in t-shirts would have forced him to have the event.

Not that it makes the situation any easier to accept....But, I did receive an email late Thursday afternoon (yesterday) from Mike with the same explanation that is posted on their website.
Hopefully everyone that registered, filled in their email address and received at least some form of announcement that the Guinness attempt has been postponed.

Off topic, Denny, who'd you take solo with?

Since I knew the answer, I thought I would pass along the info....Denny took the class through Tim Stahl.

Here is his 'rectotek' website...

I'll be at Portage until after the raffle and dinner. Plan on leaving around 3. need to be able to stop in Columbus on the way home for bit to see my daughter. Then home. Only official training dives I'm doing, unless somebody asks for something there, will be done by Saturday afternnon. Then it's dive and relax on, out of, and under the water!

Hey CamG, didn't I relay the message that I was diving Fri. but going home that afternoon. My grandkids are here for the weekend and since the event was called off, I thought I would spend it with them. The brew around the campfire, story swapping, and the Red Pig all sound like great items, but, alas, ya know---family, especially grandkids. I want a rain check on this before the summer is up.

I did a 1 hr. 15 min. solo dive today and it was just great. Cruised around the quarry at my pace and went where I wanted and came up when I wanted. I like this solo stuff.

While during my SI, people were coming in for the weekend. I talked to three or four groups and none of them were aware the event was cancelled until they went to the desk. One guy even cut his FL vacation short so he could be there. Mike is having a meeting with those there on Sat. (free drink and sandwiches) I sure hope it doesn't turn into a "bash Mike" meeting. Those I talked to didn't seem upset, but didn't like the postponement idea. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Well I was at the meeting at Gilboa, today, and it looks like the are going for the gold..I can't wait for more information!!
