Enjoy the brief respite from the rain . . .

AVALON UNDERWATER CLEANUP POSTPONED - The re-scheduled date is Saturday, April 1 and no, it's not an early April Fools joke. We were obviously keeping a close eye on the weather all week long and had meetings on Monday and Tuesday about it and on Wednesday decided the prudent thing was to postpone. One thing we factor in is what I call the "Misery Index" which is while conditions may be diveable, how miserable will you be diving it? Will you even be able to see things to pick them up? We assumed that after the rain, the visibility in the harbor area - where 80% of the attendees dive - MIGHT be five feet or so. Plus it was looking like it was going to continue raining all afternoon through the awards ceremony. So it made no sense to hold the event on many levels. In the end, it turns out that Catalina Express held the trump card regardless of what we decided, as they canceled all of their morning boats due to high seas. So even if we still wanted to hold the event, we wouldn't have been able to get you over there. Hopefully, you'll be able to join us on April 1. If you reserved gear (tanks, weights, whatever) through Catalina Divers Supply, those reservations will carry over, but I think they'd like you to contact them to confirm.

CHAMBER DAY 2023 GOES LIVE ON WEDNESDAY - Even with the Cleanup postponed, that doesn't change our timeframe for Chamber Day 2023. As usual, we will (hopefully) go live on March 1, which is this coming Wednesday at www.chamberday.org. At that time, you can start signing up for boats, the Flying Dutchman, Chamber Evening, the Chamber Challenge, and all the other aspects that make this such a fun event. I'll give you a lot more detail in the March Reef Seekers newsletter, but in the meantime, here's a sneak peek look at this years logo and t-shirt design:

SQUID DIVE GOT CANCELED LAST WEEK - No surprise given conditions. Our last one of the season is on the books for March 23, but - especially if we hear of squid activity - we'll give some thought to slotting an extra one in before that last one.

FABULOUS WEDDING DRESS FOUND ON WRECK - A ship that went down almost 400 years ago in the North Sea has yielded some fabulous artifacts, including what is presumed to be a fairly intact wedding dress interwoven with pieces of silver. What makes this significant is that fabric underwater will usually deteriorate very quickly. You can read more about all of this here: SILVER WEDDING DRESS FOUND ON WRECK.

REEF SEEKERS DIVER ENTERS GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS - It seems that everyone loves going to Disneyland. But how about loving it so much that you go every day for over eight years? Jeff Reitz, one of our divers, has just been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records for most consecutive visits to a theme park: 2,995 days in a row. His original goal was 3,000 and the pandemic and Disneyland's closure was what prevented that from happening. But he's been making the media rounds this week and there's a nice story about him in the Sunday L.A. Times: JEFF REITZ AT DISNEYLAND. Of course now that he's not chasing the record, he'll have some time to resume his other passion, diving.

And that'll do it for now. Have a great week and let's go diving soon!!!
