The Gilboa Quarry, Guinness record breaking attempt scheduled for July 17, 2010 has been postponed. You can read the details on their website

Gilboa Quarry Scuba Diving

I still plan to dive there this weekend and will have my own 'record breaking celebration' I will be diving my 100th dive. Feel free to join me if you like!

Thanks Jen for this. I'm heading to Portage for the DAN BBQ this weekend. With Gilboa not doing this we may see a bunch more at Portage. Good thing I reserved my camping spot today! It could get crowded now.

Well that's just great. I wonder how many people just burned a vacation day or had a hotel room reserved not to mention other travel arrangements. Mike had to wait till three days before the event to decide to cancel.

Another reason, to have a representative from Guinness come here requires approximately a six week notice and $2,500.00 USD.
Why didn't we know about the postponement six weeks ago?

I wish I had 35,000 dollars of other peoples money to invest for a year.

Good luck to all those trying to get their money back from Mike.

Ryan

Another reason to stay out of quarries. Hope a charter and go play on the wrecks.

Not all quarries take peoples money and cancel events... there are other alternatives to Gilboa.

For the record, I am diving the Shipwrecks of Port Sanilac this weekend... while a lot of people are expected at the DAN event at Portage and others are coming to White Star. Any where you go diving this weekend, be safe!

When I heard about it from another dive buddy, I wanted to pass along the word.
I wonder how many will show up without knowing it has been postponed!?!?

Man, this could get ugly!! How long has this announcement been out there? I just read about it yesterday off the Gilboa website after Jen clued us in. I was at Gilboa taking my solo course last Friday and talked to both Jodi and Mike, and neither mentioned the postponement to me. What's gonna happen when a group from Pennsylvania or Northern MI or Canada show up after making vacation plans to spend the weekend to engage in the event and there's no event? What if they demand their registration money back? Ugly, Ugly, Ugly!!! I'm going for the day tomorrow, mostly to feed my need, but also to see what develops. This can't be good.

I agree. I also didn't think the explanation made much sense. Too many people and not enough time to plan? They were taking reservations during last year's event. They should at least refund people's money instead of keeping it a year. I like Mike and Jodi and love diving Gilboa. This isn't going to do them any good IMO.

Off topic, Denny, who'd you take solo with?
