Not to pound you over the head with what has been written in here thus far...a New Diver Orientation would be the best path to take. Diving in cold water, with the extra weight, thicker wet suits, kelp, etc. could be a stressful encounter. Go with a Pro.

Sorry for the scratched ego - but better that then to have a dead or injured diver! We'd all rather see you enjoy Monterey diving while appreciating the risks and then meet up with you when you've gone out with someone who can give you the guidence necessary.

Better safe than sorry... There's plenty of old incidents out there to serve as warnings. Event he docile bunny slopes (Breakwater) have had it's share of tragedies.

Just because most of the dive sites are talked about in the positive doesn't mean there's not plenty of negatives left unspoken. (Monastery is a dangerous and deadly beach)
