After being bit by the COZ. bug - We are going to take the whole family back after the school year. The week after the boards cozinvasion - sorry, schools not out in time. Two of our group will be flying to Cancun ( two 20 year olds )
My question is: What is the best / safest way to get them from the airport to the ferry terminal, we've got it covered on the other side.
Our initial experience at the airport in Coz. was a reminder of the sometimes pushy Mexican sales mentality. Suggesting timeshares and transportation rather than just pointing us in the right direction to the bus transfer. We dont want or need them to get taken or to get talked into going the wrong direction. Is there a bus schedule or car hire that any board members can provide. The two young adults have traveled alone before we just want to cut out the mis-guidence / delays or fees they should'nt incure. Would also love to see them on the island for a afternoon dive without having to go look for them in cancun / playa.
Happy holidays and safe diving to all. Cat

Just a thought, but when we fly into Cancun on our way to Puerto Aventuras, we hire Cancun Valet. They meet you outside, with your name on a placard, so you can instruct your travelers to ignore anyone once they get through customs and immigration, and head straight toward the outside doors until they see their driver.

It's rather easy to go the cheaper bus route really...
Clear immigration, customs, bag claim, make a baño stop, and head for the Ado bus stop with free luggage cart. Here is more info, but I wouldn't bother booking online then having to keep up with receipts: Cancun Airport - Public Transportacion Just ignore anyone who seems like a salesman, go to what looks like buses, and buy ticket for PDC - not Cancun! $10

Buses leave every hour or so, pretty comfy and clean, arrive in 65 minutes. There are two bus stations so just clarify with the driver that you're getting off near the ferry dock.

Hire a bicycle porter to haul bags and show you to the 3 blocks to the ferry: $3 to $5

Buy one-way $12 ticket only to whichever is next, check bags in, and depending on when the next ferry goes, have a beer & snack nearby.

At Coz, claim bag, get another bicycle porter to haul bags to street where taxis are lined up, ask first one "how much to wherever?" before loading, and go.
On return, allow plenty of time to arrive at Cancun airport 2 hours before flight...
Taxi to ferry.

Whichever barge is next, this being why you don't buy a round trip ticket.

Porter to bus station. Have Mexican coins on hand for pay bano as it seems to hit there. :idk:

Bus to Cancun airport.

Ignore porters and grab a free luggage cart.

Get in line to check in.

Have lunch.

If you are going to take the bus, see the directions in the following link. It was updated March 2010 and has photos to help. I am not sure if the photos were updated as well as the commentary on the businesses to look for. I bookmarked this from Ron Lee (his site and thx). It should be good for general reference. Inaccuracies will be corrected by members here (I'm sure).

Cancun Airport to Cozumel by ADO Bus

There are some links for the ferry's at the bottom. The Ultramar site is in spanish so look for Playa del Carmen A Cozumel. The second is in English. I have not verified the companies - it's been awhile since I used them. I would search the Cozumel forum or other internet sites to verify. However, I am relatively certain that there are still at least two ferry companies and they run alternatively every hour (I have noticed in low season the times change tho).

I never had a problem with salesmen or others. We always came into the international terminal (3) and caught the ASUR free shuttle van to terminal 2. Then just walked to the end along the sidewalk. We used to be able to buy tickets outside (guy with sign or badged shirt) or had to go inside. Outside was faster.

This method is very easy.

We have taken van shuttles but honestly the bus is faster and cheaper. The van shuttles want to be full before leaving so you may have to wait. Taxis could be quicker but much more expensive.

Thank you much, coloDale and Danny Don, as usual you have the travel info down. Any orbitz codes for airfair at that time, Dandy Don ?

Oh gosh, too early for great specials to show up I think - and there may well not be any if you wait. From where do you want to originate and what dates do you want to travel?

Where do you want to stay. Sometimes you save booking air & hotel packages.

And why are those two going thru Cancun anyway?

We have two unused Jet blue tickets that have to be used up before Aug.
We have accomodations all taken care of with a time share exchange. Seems the deals put together give quite a savings but so are two apartments sleeping eight for our $300 exchange.
The dates are June 25 to July 2nd. NYC to CZM is $467 after tx and fees, the best I have found

So that's why two have to go thru Cancun?

Pretty coze, so you have lodging established.

The best I see is $459 on USAir from Newark. Looking at leaving a day earlier and/or returning a day later didn't help, and going thru Cancun wouldn't save enough to mess with at $422.

I think maybe set up a fare watch alert at Sidestep.com to give you every morning emails on the fares, then watch them for a while. Good luck.

+ 1 for Cancun valet - if you are worried about the 20 year olds showing up.
