1 - I've read that we'll need some kind of environmentally safe sunscreen to wear in the water. What do you use, and where do you get it? It's wintertime where I am, and sunscreen is kind of hard to come by, let alone some special kind. And is it a law to wear this kind, or just a strong recommendation?

Hi there,

I haven't done any diving there, but when we were in the Mayan Riviera in Oct. at Xel-ha, they did not allow suncreen in the water. They had information on how the chemicals can be hazardous to the marine life, coat the corals etc. I don't know if any of this is true, but I certainly don't want to be responsible for any marine damage if I can help it. We use Karibbean Kids (which was recommended and IS allowed). Here is the link for the site...

I'm sure most places in Mexico couldn't care less, but they also allow littering and other things that we should know better.... :) Go with you conscience! :) Happy Diving!
