Hey guys. I'm getting married in May and will be flying down to Antigua to do so, but while we're there we're also going to go scuba diving. I've always wanted to learn how to scuba dive and this was the push I needed to get into it, so I'm jumping in head first. I've been reading up on just about all I can, different equipment, what to do/not to do, diving stories etc. etc., and now that I'm starting to piece my gear together, I need a good LDS to get certified with. I'm aware of The Scuba Shop in Spartanburg, but don't know anything about them and I don't know of any other shops in the upstate. I live in Greenwood btw, and I'd like to keep the drive under an hour and a half if I can. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi xxMerlinxx,
I am not from S.C. but I would suggest checking out lake jocassee dive shop! I am not sure of the distance Between lake Jocassee(Salem) and Greenwood but it would be worth the drive IMHO! Bill Routh(the owner) is pretty well known in the area.

Nobody can recommend any shops to get certified at?

Ok,Here you go:

1 Scuba Center of Inman,SC Donnie Edwards IDEA training

2 Scuba Shop Spartanburg SC Mike and Corrie Atkins PADI Training

3 Bermuda Triangle Greenville SC Reese Davis Mark Roth SDI Training

4 Lake Jocassee Dive Shop Salem SC Bill Routh PADI/TDI Training

I have been diving with all of these shops and I personally know all of the owners and instructors. Donnie Edwards was my instructor. I know all of these guys and all of them do an excellent job.I would suggest visiting the various dive centers and find the one you are most comfortable with and best fits your needs.Good luck with your training and your vacation.

There is also Upstate Scuba in Clemson, but that may be a bit longer than you are willing to travel. Heading south, there is Neptune Dive and Ski in Augusta. They do some dives at Lake Thurmond, which may be closer to you than Jocassee.
